Interesting...
Fiberglass would be an improvement over leather for a marine environment. I've read not to even store a blade in a leather sheath, as the leather pulls moisture from the air, causing corrosion of the blade. So I try to store my knives outside their leather sheaths. Some I do, some I should, but had forgotten to. I need to see to that.
