Wards Westernfield Model 62
I have not been able to find much reliable information on this rifle.
The script used on the roll mark would place it in the 1930s or early 1940s.
It’s a single-shot bolt action and the firing pin has to be manually pulled back to cock it.
Based on the little bit of info and catalog pictures I can find, I believe this is a store branded Stevens/Springfield 82. Although there are some on the internet that insist it is a Model 83, I disagree.
It has the SAME finger grove, slight curve to the butt, and barrel length of 22" as the Springfield Model 82.
In contrast, the Springfield Model 83 has NO groves, a straight butt, and a 24" barrel length.

Assuming this to be correct, we can use the information available on the Model 82 for reference:
It was manufactured between 1935 to 1939.
The Springfield 82 retailed for $5.25 in 1935.
