Marlin 783
The Marlin 780 series is known for the "backwards safety". In that it requires you to pull it to the rear to disengage it.
Manufactured from 1971-1988 the 783 is a very robust and reliable design.
It came standard with checkering, factory installed sling swivels, and a leather sling.
My example does not get to rest in retirement. It lives by the back door, at the ready to dispatch any varmints deemed a nuisance. As such, it is equipped with the needed accouterments. It is topped with a Bushnell Banner2 3-9x50 scope, and loaded with CCI 40gr 22WMR hollow points. It has no problem taking out squirrel sized pests at 100-150 yds while the tall see through rings allow for use of the iron sights to dispatch undesirables at close range. The added flip up scope caps keep the lenses dust free while providing readiness at a moment's notice.
