For those of you running short-barreled ARs in the 10.5–12.5 range, I’d love to know what setups you’ve discovered that manage to balance smooth cycling while minimizing gas blowback. What recoil systems and gas configurations have you found to be the most effective?

My DD Mk 18 upper has been reliable from the get go. H3 buffer and red Sprinco spring help keep it relatively smooth. It's not a 16" or 20" AR, so it'll never run that smoothly, but it'll work great. Taming the blast is another issue.

Just now experimenting with this. Need a long stretch of warmer weather to play more. I have a 10.3 and an 11.5. Both current slightly over gassed (PSA). And they don't suppress as well as a 16", of course, but I thought they'd do better than this. Running an original YHM Turbo K, so.the shorter can is part of the problem. Not as quiet as I expected.

Both run, as is, but both are currently pretty harsh.

Going to mess with springs and H2 and H3 buffers. The 10.3 has a Bootleg 4 position bolt carrier in it for an attempt to control gas vs putting an adjustable gas block on it. It seems to help.
