I recently inherited several firearms, including one rifle in 6.5-06. I had never heard of that before, can anyone give me pointers on it? It looks like factory ammunition is almost nonexistent, but I can reload for it. I would rather not rechamber the rifle but I also do not love adding yet another caliber to my arsenal...

From what I can tell, that round is a necked down version of the 30-06, using a 264 diameter bullet.
A quick look on Wikipedia shows (I think) the actual name of 6.5-06 A-Square. I did another search
on AMMOSEEK.com and found nothing like it listed, although I did see a place in Dallas that has the
bullets but I did not see any shell casings. I wish I had better news, but maybe someone else does.

I don't know what else to tell you but I think you have 3 choices:

1) Try reloading rounds for it.
2) Re-Barrel for another caliber and actually use it.
3) Hang it on a wall or leave it in a gun safe for collectable value.

I don't have any experience with the 6.5-06 as such. I have a 6.5-06 Improved on a Mauser action. Great velocity. I used it as a deer and coyote rifle. I would think your 6.5-06 would be fairly easy to reload by necking down .270 cases, although I haven't compared dimensions of the two rounds.
