My Rolling Block

First impression: HEAVY!!! Fit and finish are excellent and the trigger pull is good. The trigger pull was slightly surprising since I had the impression from a few youtube videos that some of them are quite bad, being both rough and heavy.

From one of those youtube videos I gather that these rifles are not intended for off-hand shooting but are meant primarily to be fired from a rest, and I believe it as this sucker weighs almost twelve pounds.

A few challenges lay ahead for me. One is figuring out how to use the vernier rear sight, as the aperture is very small and the adjustments are a mystery to me. There is also a barrel-mounted rear sight, and that should not be a problem as that is the type of rifle sight that I am accustomed to using.

As for ammunition, I am going to have to handload for it. Factory 45-70 goes for over $2.50 a round, and that is way too much. When I picked the rifle up, I also got three boxes of Hornady, and that should do for a while.

I look forward to meeting these challenges, and will keep the good folks on this forum informed.
