I mentioned in another post that I am seriously thinking of a rolling block replica in either 45-70 or 30-30. I'd have something pretty close to the buffalo gun (45-70) vs a much more common and a lot less expensive round (the 30-30). I don't believe that recoil will be that much of a factor if I go with the 45-70 as the Pedersoli I'm looking at is IIRC, quite heavy. I just checked with Star-Line and the 45-70 brass is available.

I have a Uberti Sharps in .45-70. It has had less than a dozen rounds of smokeless factory loads through it. The rest have been black powder reloads. Reloading with BP is a bit more of a challenge than using smokeless, but fun none-the-less. I often wish I had purchased a rolling block in 50-70.
Oops. I just noticed that I fat fingered the title…. Supposed to be .45-70.

Gerhard1, the .45-70 isn't that expensive to reload, particularly in a single shot if you keep the power levels down. If you cast your own lead, light loads, they are gentle kickers too. I have loads from mouse farts up to on par with my .450 Marlin which of course is a jacketed load and is through a lever not an old conversion.
Years ago, there was a gong shoot somewhere here in central KS (before we moved away 29 years ago, we just moved back). It was 500 yards, open sights. I loved shooting my .45-70. I shot smokeless loads, but loaded fairly light. It was kaboom. Cycle the action. Wait, BOOOONNNGGG! The evidence finally came when you hit the gong. It was great fun. LOL

I have had a Uberti Sharps in .45 Gov't for some time, but if I had to do it over again, I'd probably go with the Rolling Block. Not there's anything wrong with the Sharps system, but the Rolling Block just has that cool factor. I'd love to have one in .50 Gov't.
I do like the rolling blocks. I have one in 7mm Spanish. I should get it out for a picture and to fire a few rounds.
