Hollow point ammos

Have you thought about how defensive rounds with hollow points might react in extreme cold compared to standard conditions? It's a question that raises some intriguing points!

I'd think that friction from travelling through the air at a very high speed would heat the bullets up so that the air temperature would not matter all that much. I could be wrong however.

Not really. Relative temperatures of the air will not likely have any impact on how hollow points expand. That's not really a temperature thing. The human body it is impacting will undoubtedly play a bigger role, and that's going to vary considerably less.

In cold weather, people wear more clothing. If that hole in the bullet gets plugged up, it's not going to expand. I have recovered hollow points dug out of a dirt backstop and many of them failed to expand.

Agreed. I'd be a lot more concerned about the extra thick clothing worn than anything else. That's the reason I use hardball in my moonclip reloads: the extra penetration.

There are a few HP choices designed for just that reason (like Gold Dot G2s) where it's a JHP but has either a design to minimize getting "plugged up" by clothing, or has a polymer tip/filler that is supposed to help penetrate clothing.
Personally I don't worry too much about it. It's still only a pistol round, it's likely to take multiple shots to be effective regardless, and getting hit with multiple semi-effective JHP rounds is still going to make someone think twice about their life choices.
