I got night sights and felt like I'd solved the darkness problem. Then I did a low-light class and discovered that seeing your sights is maybe 20% of the equation. The hard parts are target identification, movement and decision-making in the dark, so I guess night sights are step one, not the solution.

Was having a gun light a major step or another minor step. Just asking, because a couple of weeks
ago, I had to get up to a bump in the night so I grabbed my glock 17 clone nightstand gun. I put a
Harbor Freight rail light on this and maybe a 1000 lumen is a little too bright! Holy crap! I hit the light on
that and it washed out what little night vision I had! My vision returned fairly quick, but if there would
have been anyone standing there looking into that light, they were blinded!

Ive played the lowlight game before. Sight picture really doesn't matter at 15 yards and in, and a fiber front will gather enough light regardless if its wml or support hand held. Night sights are just like lasers, instead of focusing on the target and Situation at hand, youre fixated on the glowie parts.
And in regards to lights, you cant hit what you cant see. Use all the lumens.

We do night matches near Frankfort. It’s eye opening for people when they shoot at night the first time. Our next night match is April 18th if anyone is interested.
You should always try out your home defense setup - how/where it is stored, how you can access it, who can access it, what your standard plan is, what your backup plan is...make sure you've done it a few times in daylight and darkness, so you won't be surprised by things like you just discovered.
Indoors tends to be close-quarters and light-colored walls, so bouncing a bright flashlight off them is a good way to blind yourself. Take a class in low-light techniques if you can, but practicing is second-best. Either way, you don't want the first time you're clearing your house in the dark to be the time the bad guys are there.

Was in a night revolver shoot at a muzzleloading club many years ago. With candle lanterns on either side of the target, you got to see the target the first shot, after that the black powder flash night blinded you, 30 seconds to shoot the whole cylinder. Did get to witness a Walker Colt cross fire, set off the one in battery, and the chamber on either side of the barrel in one pretty much big ball of fire! It was one of many fun shoots we did. Shooting the flame out of candles was fun, but you never noticed how night blind you could get because of the reload time on a rifle.
