I try to spend as much time as possible at the range or out in the fields. I’m really excited to connect with fellow shooters in Kansas, hear about your favorite local spots, and learn from the community. Thanks for welcoming me!
I never have done much range shooting. Here is a picture of the pond that several of us did a lot of winter-time shooting with .22 pistols or rifles. I remember someone shooting an M1 carbine there but that's the only centerfire I remember. That boat dock or whatever it is wasn't there back then. We only used the pond for shooting when it was frozen. It sits at the bottom of a draw and we would start at the south end, skating rocks across the frozen pond. If the shooter was also at the south end, the rocks would be going more or less straight away from the shooter and fairly easy to hit.
To make it harder, the shooter would walk up the west side of the pond while the target thrower would stay on the south end, to making it a crossing target.
It belongs to someone else now. The lady that owned it died and her estate sold it. But for a few years in the '70s, we had a lot of fun and learned a lot about how to hit moving targets there.
